There is a distinct energy to the Bywater neighborhood in New Orleans. It’s colorful, a little bit gritty, artistic, and deeply authentic. For couples who want a wedding that feels less like a traditional event and more like a genuine experience of the city, this neighborhood is the perfect backdrop.
This wedding perfectly captured that Bywater spirit by utilizing two of the area’s most unique venues: The Mazant for a relaxed morning and first look, and Capulet for an industrial-chic ceremony and reception. Bridged together by a brass band leading guests through the streets, it was a seamless flow of documentary moments.
Getting Ready and First Look at The Mazant
The day began at The Mazant. This renovated historic guest house offers a completely different vibe than a standard hotel. With its large porches, backyard pool, and quirky, stylish interiors, it feels like hosting a pre-wedding house party with your closest friends.
The light in the house is fantastic for documentary prep photos, allowing for natural, unscripted moments as the anticipation builds. The couple utilized the backyard garden for their first look. It was a quiet, private moment surrounded by lush greenery before the energy of the day kicked into high gear.

Bywater Second Line
A New Orleans wedding is complete without a transition that shakes up the energy. Immediately following the ceremony, a brass band fired up, and the newly married couple led their guests out of the warehouse doors and onto the streets of the Bywater.
A Second Line parade is pure joy set to music. It’s handkerchiefs waving in the air, neighbors coming out onto their porches to cheer, and dancing on the pavement as the sun starts to dip. It is the ultimate documentary photo opportunity, capturing the raw excitement of the celebration spilling out into the neighborhood.
The parade looped back to Capulet, where the space had been flipped for the reception. As evening fell, the warehouse transformed again. Bistro lights strung across the high ceilings created a warm glow against the brick, and the band kept the energy high well into the night. It was the perfect end to a day that celebrated the best of what a Bywater wedding can be—stylish, energetic, and full of life.
